  • Primary School Swimming Gala 2024

    The primary schools will be hosting their annual swimming gala on Wednesday 24 April 2024. All parents, carers, and members of the public are invited to attend. However, space within the pool complex is limited and priority will be given to parents/carers. Those attending are also reminded that there is limited seating and shade available.

    The gala will start at approximately 10:00 and will end at approximately 14:30.

    As this is a school event we would appreciate if all spectators could adhere to the following conditions in the interests of the safety of our students:

    • No animals will be allowed at this event.
    • Only the appointed marshals, helpers, and School Team Leaders (SLT) will be allowed around the edge of the pool.
    • There will be school appointed photographers for the day. No photos are to be taken during this event by spectators. However, in the interest of safeguarding others, parents/carers may take photos of their own child/children.
    • No alcohol is allowed anywhere on the premises.
    • Smoking is prohibited at the pool for this event. Persons wishing to smoke must do so outside of the pool area, and away from all pupils.
    • All litter is to be put into the bins provided.

    Please note, if parents/carers wish to transport their children home after the event they are asked to ensure that they send in a note, or see a staff member on the day so that all children can be accounted for.

    We look forward to your support in making this a successful day for our children. 

  • Central Support Service Closure

    The Central Support Service will be closed tomorrow, Friday 19 April 2024, to allow staff to participate in their Away Day. 

    These office closures will include the IT Section, Transport Section, Communications Hub, Statistics Office, Central Human Resources & Organisational Development office, Legislative Council Office staff, and the Archives.

    The Castle Reception will not be affected by this closure. Normal business will resume on Monday 22 April 2024 at 08:30.

  • Economic Development Investment Programme

    Public Information Meetings

    The Programme Management Office will be holding a series of public information meetings during April 2024. 

    These meetings are held quarterly to update the public on the various projects undertaken by the Economic Development Investment Programme (EDIP).

    The public are also encouraged to put forward any questions or queries they might have to the EDIP team.

    The meetings will include updates on the following projects:

    • Rupert’s Cargo Handling Facility Development
    • Side Path Road
    • Field Road Rehabilitation

    All meetings will commence at 19:00 and will take place as follows:

  • Arrival of the MV Karoline and MV Hondius

    The MV Karoline is scheduled to arrive in St Helena at 05:30 on Wednesday 17 April 2024 and will dock alongside Rupert’s Jetty. Cargo operations are expected to commence on Wednesday and should be completed by Friday 19 April 2024.

    The MV Hondius will also arrive at 17:00 on Wednesday 17 April 2024 and will anchor in James Bay until 18 or 19 April 2024.

    The public are therefore advised that Jamestown Wharf and the whole of lower Rupert’s, including the beach area, will be closed to the public from Wednesday 17 April 2024 until Friday 19 April 2024. These areas will be strictly prohibited and is limited only to those who have made prior arrangements with Port Control.

    Boat owners and operators are advised that mooring on the ‘span’ mooring rope near the landing steps at the Jamestown Wharf is prohibited for the duration of cargo operations.

    The public are also advised that while the MV Hondius is in port, a 200M exclusion zone must be adhered to by all marine traffic.

  • Lobster Science Workshop – Thursday 18 April

    The Marine and Fisheries Conservation Section invite all fishers to an educational workshop focusing on lobster, crayfish and stump. The workshop will be held at the Canister in Jamestown at 18:00 on Thursday 18 April 2024. It is expected to last an hour.

    The aim of this workshop will be to inform fishers on methods for biological sampling, how landings are calculated and how fishers can help with the scientific process of data collection.

    The workshop will include a presentation on the science that informs lobster quotas, a demonstration of practical skills, including free calipers for attendees to use when measuring lobsters, and information on how fishers can support science efforts.

  • Renovation works at the Post Office completed

    We are pleased to advise that renovation works at the Post Office building in Jamestown are now complete.

    The public notice outside the Post Office is once again in use. Public notices, such as marriage certificates, were temporarily displayed at the Essex House notice board while renovation works were carried out.

    Additionally, access to the Social Security, Income Tax, Statistics, and Procurement Offices has reverted back to the main Post Office entrance.

    The public are thanked for their cooperation and understanding whilst the renovation works were taking place.

  • Sea Conditions

    St Helena is expected to experience unsettled sea conditions from Tuesday 2 April 2024 to Wednesday 3 April 2024 in James Bay and Rupert’s Bay.

    The public are asked to take caution when accessing the sea front area in Jamestown. To avoid damage to vehicles, drivers are advised to take care when parking near the safety rails and boat owners should ensure their vessels are securely fixed to their moorings.

    The same conditions are expected in Rupert’s Bay and the public are advised to take care in the beach, shears and wharf areas. Port Control will be monitoring sea conditions and may restrict access to the sea front and Jamestown Wharf if conditions worsen.

  • Tourist Office Closure

    The Tourist Office will be closed this coming Saturday 30 March 2024. Normal opening hours will resume Tuesday 2 April 2024 08:30 to 16:00.

  • Licence for importing potatoes from Tristan Da Cunha

    The Mv Hondius is due to arrive at St Helena from Tristan da Cunha on Thursday 18 April 2024. Persons expecting to receive potatoes from Tristan are reminded that they will require an import licence.

    Licence application forms are available from the Biosecurity Section at Scotland, St Paul’s. Please contact either Nicholas Stevens on email: nicholas.stevens@sainthelena.gov.sh or Julie Balchin on email: julie.balchin@sainthelena.gov.sh or telephone 24724 for enquiries. Applications will close at 15:00 on Friday 5 April 2024. No applications will be accepted after this date.

    Applicants are reminded that proof of payment is required before a licence can be issued. A payment of £6 can be made at the Bank of St Helena using account number: 61000003 or at the Post & Customer Services Centre at the Post Office. Please quote ‘Fresh Produce Import Licence’.
