  • HM Customs Closure

    HM Customs will be closed from 12:00 on Wednesday 27March 2024.

  • Stitches Ridge To Wranghams Road Closure

    The Highways Authority has given approval for the road from the junction at Stitches Ridge to Wranghams, Sandy Bay, to be closed between 09:00 and 15:00 on Tuesday 26March 2024 and Tuesday 2 April 2024. These closures are to enable the Roads Section to clear vegetation from the road side.

    Road closure and diversion signs will be in place and, as normal, emergency services will be granted access.

  • Maundy Thursday Safety Advice

    Maundy Thursday falls this year on Thursday 28 March 2024. It is St Helena tradition to spend this time fishing at various locations around the island.

    To help ensure that we all stay safe the Sea Rescue Service offers the following safety advice.

    If you’re planning a fishing trip, please inform family members and friends of your intended location and time of return. It is also advisable to consider taking the following items with you:

    • VHF radio, mobile phone or other means of communication
    • Life jacket
    • Any prescription medication
    • Adequate food and water
    • Suitable clothing for the weather conditions, including hi-vis clothing 
    • First aid kit
    • Adequate lighting

    Please do not fish alone.

    The Sea Rescue Service teams will be patrolling the various fishing areas around the island throughout Maundy Thursday night. If any assistance is required, you can call for help on VHF Channel 16, which will be monitored at all times by the Emergency Services Call Centre (call sign ‘St Helena Radio’).

    The teams can also be signalled by flashing or waving a light and, as usual, will still be contactable in an emergency via telephone number 999.

    The tides on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are as follows:

    Maundy Thursday

    High tide: 04:20 – 0.85m above chart datum

    Low tide: 10:28 – 0.11m above chart datum

    High tide: 16:42 – 0.86m above chart datum

    Low tide: 22:54 – 0.15m above chart datum

    Good Friday

    High tide: 04:54 – 0.80m above chart datum 

    Low tide: 11:02 – 0.15m above chart datum

    High tide: 17:15 – 0.81m above chart datum

    Low tide: 23:29 – 0.18m above chart datum

  • Arrival of the MV Karoline

    The MV Karoline is scheduled to arrive at St Helena on Wednesday 20 March 2024 and will dock alongside Rupert’s Jetty. Cargo operations will commence as soon as practical and should be completed by Thursday 21 March 2024.

    The public are therefore advised that the Jamestown Wharf and the whole of lower Rupert’s, including the beach area, will be closed to the public from Wednesday 20 March 2024 and until the vessel has departed. These areas will be strictly prohibited and is limited only to those who have made prior arrangements with Port Control.

    Boat owners and operators are advised that mooring on the ‘span’ mooring rope near the landing steps at the Jamestown Wharf is prohibited for the duration of cargo operations.

    The public are thanked in advance for their patience and cooperation.

  • General Hospital To New Bridge Road Closure – Wednesday 20 March

    The road from the General Hospital to New Bridge in Jamestown will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 09:00 to 15:00 on Wednesday 20 March 2024. This closure is to allow contractors to use a crane to remove and install a generator set for the hospital.  

    During this closure, a diversion route will be in effect, via Side Path Road. Appropriate signage will be in place.

  • Post and Customer Services Centre Closure

    The Post and Customer Services Centre would like to inform customers that due to the forthcoming year end processes the centre will be closed from Thursday 28 March 2024.  This closure will include Saturday 30 March 2024.

    Normal business will resume on Wednesday 03 April 2024 from 08:45 to 15:00.

    Jamestown Social Benefit payments for the week ending 28 March will be payable on Wednesday 27 March and Thursday 28 March.

    Country Social Benefit payments for the week ending 28 March will be payable from the usual venues on Wednesday 27 March.

  • Public Bus Service Update

    Following requests from the public, a minor change has been made to the Route D public bus service timetable.

    With effect from Monday 18 March 2024, the following changes will take place:

    Half Tree Hollow (HTH) and St PaulsDRoute D will depart Jamestown at 08:30 travelling to New Ground Point via HTH, Red Hill, Model Cottage and Sapper Way, arriving at New Ground at 08:47. Thereafter on to White Gate via Cleugh’s Plain, Rosemary Plain and Scotland.

    The rest of the Route D timetable remains as previously published. Route D operates on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Sea Conditions

    St Helena is currently experiencing unsettled sea conditions and is forecast to continue through to Friday 22 March 2024 in James Bay and Rupert’s Bay.

    The public are asked to take caution when accessing the sea front area in Jamestown. To avoid damage to vehicles, drivers are advised to take care when parking near the safety rails and boat owners should ensure their vessels are securely fixed to their moorings.

    The same conditions are expected in Rupert’s Bay and the public are advised to take care in the beach, shears and wharf areas.

    Port Control will be monitoring sea conditions and may restrict access to the sea front and Jamestown Wharf if conditions worsen.

  • Restricted access to Jamestown Wharf

    The cruise ship MV Seabourn Venture is scheduled to visit St Helena from approximately 14:30 on Sunday 10 March 2024 to 21:00 on Monday 11 March 2024.

    Jamestown Wharf will therefore be closed to all members of the public from 12:00 on Sunday 10 March 2024 and will remain closed until the vessels departure. 

    Access to the Jamestown Wharf will be strictly prohibited and is limited only to those who have made prior arrangements with Port Control.

    The public are also advised whilst MV Seabourn Venture is in port, a 200m exclusion zone must be adhered to by all marine traffic.

  • Painting of Tomb Road railings and Bellstone decking refurbishment

    S. Doy Contractors will be painting the railings along the Tomb Road from today, Friday 8 March 2024, for approximately three weeks.

    Tomb Road will remain open, but drivers are asked to approach this area slowly and with caution.

    S. Doy Contractors will also be carrying out refurbishment works to the decking around the Bellstone in Levelwood from today, Friday 8 March 2024, for approximately three weeks.

    Access to the Bellstone will be limited, and the public are asked to be mindful of the works that are being carried out and to approach the area with caution and adhere to the signage in place.
