  • Wreath Laying Ceremony and Road Closures – 16 February 2024

    A special wreath laying ceremony, led by the Right Reverend Lord Bishop of St Helena Dale Bowers, will take place at the Cenotaph on Friday 16 February 2024 at 15:00. Governor Nigel Phillips, the Chief Minister Julie Thomas, Speaker of the House of Commons the Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP and Speaker Cyril Gunnell will place commemorative wreaths at the Cenotaph. These will be laid to honour those who lost their lives in the violence of war, as well as those who served in and survived war.

    All persons wishing to attend the ceremony are asked to assemble at the Cenotaph by no later than 14:45.

    The Highways Authority has given approval for the road from the Cenotaph to Donny’s Place at the seafront to be closed from 14:00 on Friday 16 February. The immediate car parking spaces adjacent to and in front of the Cenotaph by the seafront will also be closed from 07:00 that day.

    Appropriate signs will be in place and the public are thanked in advance for their cooperation.

  • Restricted Access To Jamestown Wharf

    The Jamestown Wharf will be closed to the public on Wednesday 14 February 2024 between 08:00 and 16:00. This closure is to enable Port Control to relocate all empty containers in preparation for the upcoming call of the MV Maria Da Paz.

    Boat owners are asked not to leave any vehicles unattended on the wharf as this may prevent the operation of the stacker.

    Access to the Jamestown Wharf will be strictly prohibited and is limited only to those who have made prior arrangements with Port Control.

  • Road Works At Jamestown Sea Front

    Due to unfavourable weather conditions this morning and prescheduled works occurring in other parts of the island, the Roads Section has postponed the resurfacing works at the sea front. Work is expected to resume next week. The public will be informed of the exact dates and time in due course.

  • Longwood Clinic Closure

    The Health and Social Care Portfolio would like to inform the public that Longwood Clinic will be closed from Thursday 8 February 2024 until Thursday 29 February 2024. 

    During this time, all appointments will be moved to the Jamestown Outpatients Clinic.  Any persons already booked during this period are asked to contact the appointments office by telephone on 22321 and you will be advised of any changes to your appointment.

    Any persons wishing to collect prescriptions from Longwood are asked to pre-order your request through the dispensary by telephone on 25867 or via email through pharmacy.prescriptions@shg.gov.sh. Collection will be at Longwood Clinic on Wednesdays from 09:00 to 09:30 for pre-ordered prescriptions only.  Health and Social Care apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. The public are thanked in advance for their understanding and cooperation.

  • Revised Opening Times for Post and Customer Services Centre

    From Monday 12 February 2024, the Post and Customer Services Centre, at the Post Office Building, Jamestown, will be operating revised opening hours for walk-ins.

    Opening hours for the Post and Customer Services Centre are as follows:

    Mondays – Fridays08:45 – 15:00
    Saturdays08:45 – 12:00

  • Road Works At Jamestown Sea Front

    The Roads Section of the Safety, Security and Home Affairs Portfolio will be carrying out a slurry demo with the Minimac paver on the sea front from Tuesday 6 February to Thursday 8 February 2024.

    After successful trials with the new slurry paver in the St Paul’s area, the Roads section is planning to do a slurry demonstration section for the press, government officials and the public. The demo section will be on the Jamestown Seafront, between the Arch and the Customs building.

    All car parks in this vicinity will need to be vacated from 08:30 to 15:30. The road will remain open and traffic will be managed accordingly.

  • Surface Mail Via Ascension Island

    Following a press release issued yesterday, the Post and Customer Services Centre would like to inform customers that confirmation has now been received that the MV Karoline is expected to arrive at Ascension Island on Wednesday 20 March 2024.

    Surface mail via Ascension Island for this voyage can now be accepted at our Main Office in Jamestown or posted via the sub-post offices around the Island. Closing times and details will be announced later. Post early to avoid delays.

  • HM Customs Closure

    The public are advised that HM Customs will be closed for business on the following days:

    • Wednesday 31 January 2024;
    • Wednesday 7 February 2024; and
    • Wednesday 14 February 2024
