  • Environment, Natural Resources & Planning Portfolio Office Closure

    The Environment, Natural Resources & Planning Portfolio’s (ENRP) Offices at Scotland, St Paul’s, will be closed from 12.30pm to 4pm on Thursday, 21 December 2023, for a staff function. Normal service will resume from 8.30am on Friday, 22 December 2023.

    In the event of a veterinary emergency during this closure, please call: 62039 or a forestry emergency, please call: 65394.

  • Waste Management Service Update 

    Additional Communal Recycling Hubs

    Waste Management Services (WMS) would like to advise the public that there are five new communal recycling hubs, with the inclusion of a brown bin for cardboard/paper. The hubs consist of separate wheelie bins, colour coded for the different types of recyclable waste.

    Red – Glass, Grey – Plastics, Blue – Cans & Tins, Brown – Cardboard/Paper

    The communal recycling hubs are located at (five new hubs underlined):

    • Briars – Near St Mary’s Church
    • Alarm Forest – Bus Shelter
    • Longwood – Piccolo Hill
    • Deadwood – Bus Shelter (pictured below)
    • Blue Hill – Near Moonshines Bar Car Park
    • Half Tree Hollow – Near Leon Plato’s residence
    • Half Tree Hollow – Andy’s Shop
    • Half Tree Hollow – Solomon’s Supermarket
    • St Paul’s – New Ground Bus Shelter
    • St Paul’s – Cleughs Plain Bus Shelter
    • St Paul’s – Kingshurst Community Centre
    • Sandy Bay – Bagley’s Point

    These will be monitored and collected by a dedicated vehicle and transported to Horse Point Landfill Site. Once there, they will be sorted into the relevant waste stream and recycled. Recycling will consist of baling and local use, or baling and exportation to South Africa.

    The overall goal is to reduce the amount of waste which is landfilled. This new service will achieve a key objective in SHG’s Vision and Strategy 2023-2025, further delivering on the ‘Altogether Greener’ strategic priority.

  • Central Support Services Closure

    The Central Support Service along with the Treasury department at the Castle will be closed from 12:00 on Friday 15 December to allow staff to attend the end of year function.

    These office closures will include the Governor’s Office, Attorney General’s Chambers, and Judicial Services, Statistics Department, Legislative Council staff office. Staff in the Treasury Portfolio based at the Castle will also be unavailable from 12:00.  The switchboard will continue to be staffed until 16:00.

    Normal business will resume on Monday 18 December at 08:30.

  • Post and Customer Services Centre Closure – Friday 15 December

    Customers are advised that the Post and Customer Services Centre will close at 1pm on Friday 15 December 2023. Normal business will resume at 8.45am on Saturday 16 December 2023.

    Benefit recipients that collect their payments from the centre are advised that, if not collected by 1pm on Friday 15 December, benefits can be collected on Saturday 16 December, between the hours of 8.45am and 12noon.

  • Archives Office Closure

    SHG Archives will be closed for business on Friday 15 December 2023.

    Normal operations will resume on Monday 18 December 2023.

    Any inconvenience caused is regretted and SHG Archives thanks the public for their support and cooperation.

  • Local Mail Closing Date

    The Post and Customer Services Centre wishes to inform all customers that the closing date for local mail before Christmas will be Friday 15 December 2023, via the main Post Office. Failure to post by this date will cause delays, and may mean that mail is not delivered to the Sub Post Offices for collection before Christmas.

  • Ports Safety Equipment Inspections

    Port Control will be carrying out weekly inspections at the ports of both Jamestown and Rupert’s.

    These inspections are required to ensure that all safety equipment such as life rings, fire extinguishers and the Island’s navigational aids are in good working order.

    The public are asked to contact Port Control by telephone on 22750 if they have any concerns regarding this safety equipment.

  • Immigration Office Telephone Query System

    The Immigration Section are implementing a telephone query system on Tuesdays, when the office is otherwise closed. This is to ensure that enquiries can still be made and processed whilst staff are at the airport managing midweek flights. This will start from 12 December 2023. 

    If you have a query you can leave a message through telephone number 22287. A member of the Immigration team will respond to the query as soon as possible.

    In the near future, the Immigration Section will also be implementing an appointment based system for Tuesdays. An announcement providing more information on this will be issued in due course.

  • Ferry Service Schedule – Thursday 07 December

    Port Control advise that there will be a disruption to the ferry service on Thursday 7 December 2023. The ferry service will be available from 4am until 9am, then from 3pm to 8pm. The ferry service will be closed between 9am and 3pm as the ferry boat will be unavailable. 

    The ferry service will resume operations as normal from Friday 8 December 2023.

    Port Control thanks the public in advance for their understanding and cooperation.
