  • Minister Ellick to Depart Island

    Minister for Safety, Security and Home Affairs Jeffrey Ellick, will depart the island on Saturday 21 June 2025 to travel to South Africa for personal reasons.

    In Minister Ellick’s absence, Minister Mark Brooks has been assigned ministerial responsibility for the Safety, Security and Home Affairs Portfolio.

  • Arrival of MV Karoline

    The MV Karoline is scheduled to arrive at James Bay at 17:00 on Sunday 22 June 2025. Weather permitting the vessel will dock alongside Rupert’s Jetty at 07:00 on Monday 23 June 2025 and cargo operations will commence as soon as practicable.

    The public are therefore advised that the Port of Jamestown and whole of Lower Ruperts including the beach area, will be closed from 07:00 on Monday 23 June 2025, until all cargo operations are completed.

    These areas will be strictly prohibited and access will be limited to those who have made prior arrangements with St Helena Port Control.

    Boat owners and operators are advised that mooring on the ‘span’ mooring rope near the landing steps at the Jamestown Wharf is prohibited for the duration of cargo operations.

    The public are thanked in advance for their patience and co-operation.

  • Police Appeal for Information: Incident at High Knoll Fort

    The Royal St Helena Police (RSHP) are investigating a serious incident that occurred at High Knoll Fort during Easter Weekend 2025.

    Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have been in that area between 13:00 on Friday 18 April and 18:00 on Saturday 19 April 2025. Anyone who was in that area during the given times or has any information, is encouraged to contact DC Joshua Deville by telephone on 22626 or by email through cid@sainthelena.gov.sh

  • Upcoming Road Works: Ladder Hill and Shy Road Closure – July 2025

    The Highways Authority has given approval for Ladder Hill Road and Shy Road to be closed from Tuesday 01 July 2025 to Thursday 31 July 2025 to all vehicular traffic and pedestrians.

    This closure is to allow the Roads Section to carry out full-width surface works with the micro-paver for the rehabilitation of the part of the primary road network funded under the Economic Development Investment Programme (EDIP).

    Emergency services and public transport will also be affected. All vehicles needing to travel in and out of Jamestown during this time must travel via Side Path or Constitution Hill Road.

    Car sharing is encouraged to reduce the cost of travel.

    The Roads Section has inspected all primary roads and are developing a schedule to address priority areas. Upcoming works will take place in the following priority areas:

    • Ladder Hill Road
    • Ladder Hill to White Wall
    • White Wall to Sapper Way Junction
    • White Gate to Bates Branch
    • Bottom Woods to Longwood Gate
    • Longwood Gate to Hutts Gate
    • Hutts Gate to Alarm Forest

    Dates for scheduled work will be announced nearer the time, pending suitable weather conditions and arrival of bitumen from South Africa.

  • Update on Public Warning Systems

    The Emergency Planning Department wishes to provide an update regarding the Public Warning Systems installed in Rupert’s and Jamestown under the EDIP Micro Project funding during the 2022-23 fiscal year. 

    The systems continue to experience difficulties in establishing reliable communication with the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre- a critical function for their operational effectiveness.  The Emergency Planning Department is maintaining continuous and active communication with both Sure SA Ltd and the manufacturer to seek a definitive and timely resolution to these outstanding matters.

    Further updates will be provided to the community as significant progress is made.

  • Controlled Rock Removal – Tuesday 17 June

    The Rock Guards will carry out a controlled rock removal on the hillside of Ladder Hill, above the Museum on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, from 10:00 to 13:00.

    During this time, the road from the back of the Prison to the entrance of the Grand Parade will be closed to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. Vehicular traffic will be diverted through Church Lane and Shy Road.

    Parking will be prohibited at the Museum car parks during this time. Vehicle owners are asked to move their vehicles prior to this closure. Pedestrians using Jacob’s ladder will be diverted at the half way footpath where appropriate signage and marshals will be in place.

    The Rock Guards extends sincere thanks to the public for their continued support and cooperation during these necessary works.

  • Road Closure At Knollcombes

    The Highways Authority has approved the temporary closure of the road at Knollcombes on Monday, 16 June, and Tuesday, 17 June 2025 from 09:00 to 15:00. This is to allow the Roads Section to carry out essential general maintenance work.

    During this period, the diversion route for all traffic will be via Watercross Road and the Redhill Treatment Plant.

    Only emergency services will be granted access to the closed section of the road.

    Residents residing in the Knollcombes area will also be permitted to access their properties through the closed road.

    The Roads Section extends its sincere thanks to all residents and road users for their continued support and cooperation during these necessary works. Your understanding helps us maintain safe and reliable road infrastructure.

These sessions will be held as a joint engagement with the PMO, Connect St Helena, and Environmental Health.

    These meetings are intended to share the latest developments on the project and to gather feedback from the community. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and engage directly with the team responsible for delivering this important infrastructure work.

    All meetings will commence at 19:00 and will take place as follows:
